Chef Roshara Sanders: Inspirational story and inspired culinary creations
Chef Roshara Sanders has an incredibly inspirational personal story that helped cultivate her inspired culinary creations. Ms. Sander’s (a.k.a. ‘Chef Ro’) rich and multi-faceted talents and contributions range from decorated Army veteran, award-winning chef and ambassador for Habitat for Humanity.
Building her family’s Habitat for Humanity home, where she raised Chef Ro, her mother modeled dedication, perseverance and commitment to family and community. Chef Ro credits her many achievements in the armed forces and in the kitchen to her mom and her association with Habitat from an early age – “I wouldn’t be where I am today without Habitat for Humanity”. This is the foundation for Chef Ro’s dedication and passion to change the world through food, advocacy and philanthropy. The kitchen was the heart of her home growing up.
Deployed twice, she holds Campaign Medals from Iraq and Afghanistan. When Roshara returned stateside, she joined the 395th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and was able to cross train as a food supply specialist. Here, her interest and commitment to cooking and service was ignited. She states, “I was passionate about cooking, and I prepared meals for 500 soldiers, three times a day, in shifts around the clock.” Given her passion and drive, upon completion of her military service, Roshara enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America.

She proceeded to become an entrepreneur and chef with the creation of Alkhmey. The Alkhmey Food Group has a vision of inspiring minds, hearts, and souls through food by connecting the gap between two worlds of people in its effort to help the less fortunate.
Chef Ro and her Alkhemy partners have come together to make a difference in the world through food. They realized their talents create a life changing food experience for people. “The magic of cooking is in the ingredients.” The Chef and her culinary collaborators leverage healthy food practices as a cornerstone while creating a memorable experience bite by bite.

Being a Habitat for Humanity ambassador is the most recent crown jewel to her impressive credentials and contributions. To further demonstrate the commitment to the global good, Chef Ro and Alkhemy will donate 10% of its proceeds to Habitat for Humanity for the duration of the partnership. Her role as celebrity ambassador was debuted in June at The Loft at Soby’s in Greenville, South Carolina. This exclusive event featured a curated menu of inspired cuisine from Malawi, Africa – one of the global service countries where Habitat International has a presence. Those fortunate enough to encounter Chef Ro will be delighted and fortified by her cooking finesse and inspired by her living example to make a positive difference.
Chef Ro passionately and clearly defines her perspective stating “I cook because food is life. I do what I do because I love people.” This passion and love shines through in her cooking and in dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
