Could you share a bit more your background and that of Hills of Africa (HOA)?
People want to get to know people and understand the community where they are traveling to make it a more meaningful experience. Our mission at Hills of Africa is to change lives one journey at a time, every time. We curate 50 to 60 trips each year with ranging from solo travelers to groups of 50 people.
As a boutique travel company, we offer customized Africa safari vacation itineraries to support a variety of budget, time frame, and travel tastes. This could mean a photo safari, hiking trek or something as specific as organizing a soccer match between the traveling family and a local village or volunteering for a day to paint a daycare center.
How does HOA connect with local communities and contribute to them?
In addition to changing the lives of travelers to Africa, we also work to change the lives of African locals and their community, as well as the delicate environments and eco-systems of Africa. Our trips include properties and tour operators who are responsible about the environment and tourism that benefits both travelers and locals. Our focus is on being involved by helping in a way that is empowering and sustainable. For instance, in Cape Town, we work within the community to help build buildings, repair schools, and work side-by-side with local women who grow and sell vegetables.
The Give Movement Journey is an annual trip dedicated to giving back to Africa’s women artists and entrepreneurs and providing suitable and sustainable housing for some of the least fortunate. Needless to say, this trip transforms the lives of all who participate. Here are a couple testimonials from recent travelers:
“The Give Movement Journey was the best trip I’ve ever taken, perhaps the best thing I’ve done with my life – or at least the thing that filled me the most!” – Candace D’Agnolo – Founder of Dog-a-holics
“A truly enriching experience. Will help anyone gain perspective to what really matters.” – Trent Lanz – photographer www.trentlanz.com
